The world is a grand stage of makeshift troupes.
In many instances, behind the façade of professionalism and meticulousness - the decisions of entrepreneurs, the selection of stories by the media, the campaigns of politicians, the legal games of lawyers - there lies merely a semblance of substance. Thus, with patience and in-depth study, it is indeed possible to uncover systemic opportunities.
The world is a colossal makeshift troupe - a phrase I am deeply grateful to a lawyer friend for summarizing and sharing with me. It was as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over my head, more enlightening than a decade of study.
Of course, most of the time, I, too, am part of this troupe. So, we let each other be, not puncturing each other's facades, living in peaceful coexistence. A better approach, however, is to be amicable and humble, yet always maintain curiosity about the field and skepticism towards "expertise". If you don't want to be a sniper, you can always play the game as a whole – a humorous tug of war between serious makeshift troupes and the world's troupes.
At this point, your own makeshift troupe becomes your home brew – no socializing needed.
There is no need to hang on every word of other troupes, or to maintain an anxious curiosity about all movements. A good thing is good even before it becomes popular. Socializing is energy-consuming; it is useless before becoming good, and useful after. Hoping to make something better through socialization is almost impossible, unless the thing itself is inherently social.
So, it's better to trust yourself and give your time to yourself. Only a truly dedicated makeshift troupe has the unique flavor of overcoming obstacles.
